Meet Harry Shurek: Tech-Savvy Financial & Accounting Trailblazer boasting over 30 years of diverse business experience, Harry Shurek has made a name for himself as a financial, accounting, and tax expert with a tech-forward mindset.
Beginning his career in 1992 as a high-school intern at NatWest Bank (now Bank of America), Harry later took on part-time teller positions at Trust Company Bank (now Truist) and then transitioned into a retail furniture sales associate role at Rooms To Go from 1996 to 2004. As a multi-year million-dollar club member, Harry juggled full-time work and college, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Georgia State University in 2004.
Continuing his financial journey, Harry worked as a licensed financial specialist at Wachovia Bank from 2004 to 2006, assisting clients with loans, deposits, and investments. He furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in Accounting from Keller Graduate School in 2007. This paved the way for Harry’s entrance into public accounting, working for Galanti & Company, PC (now CliftonLarsonAllen) followed by a two-year stint at another mid-size CPA firm.
In 2009, Harry launched Shurek Accounting & Tax from scratch, growing the firm to 800 clients within eight years through marketing efforts, personal networking, and branding. He catered to a mix of 500+ small to medium-sized business clients and hundreds of personal tax filings. Recognizing a need for accountants in the emerging legal cannabis industry in 2015, Harry created MCA Accounting Solutions in 2016. After going national with the cannabis business, Harry has worked with over 150 licensees across 26 states.
Harry’s innovative mindset led him to explore the crypto space in 2017, starting with crypto mining and running 40 machines in his basement while heavily trading and assisting clients with tax work in the sector. With experience in NFTs, DeFi, trading, and mining, Harry established The Crypto Accountant in 2021, addressing the underserved crypto accounting market.
Harry recently launched all his accounting practices in the metaverse in a bold move, innovating as the fourth accounting firm in this virtual space. His latest venture, MetaWRK, leverages VR, AR, AI, and Web3 technologies to combine his financial, technological, and entrepreneurial expertise.

This was the first year we've used a real individual to handle our taxes versus Turbo Tax. Ended up owing a bit, but knowing that it was done right and having someone to talk to about questions we had and ways to avoid owing next year was invaluable.
